Goblin Bottle

"Some say they bring good luck." Feris pointed out helpfully.

"It's disgusting." Allianora all but yelled.

Nimble frowned. "Who are we to judge?" It's not like we haven't taken trophies from some of our kills."

"Did it just blink?" Rathgar peered closer at the jar. "I swear, it just blinked."

"I wouldn't get too close, you'll get it upset." a craggy old voice called out from the dark interior of the cottage. "And then it'll be days before it's of any use." Tall and thin, the old man stooped to pass through the door

Alice Tochylovska Goblin Head Specimen

This necromatic device requires the head of a goblin shaman or wokan. The creation process imbues it with the spark of undeath, and preserves the goblin's knowledge, and also taps into the resonance of the plane of negative energy. Goblin bottles are excellent at sniffing out necromatic magics within 120' or other magic items within 60' for up to 30 minutes per day. It will always direct the user toward a necromatic object before directing toward a non-necromatic object. Otherwise, it will always go toward the most powerful object within range.

Unfortunately for anyone wanting to use it, it only responds to commands spoken in goblin, and only with a successful reaction roll (7+) once per day. Failure will result in a -7 penalty to the roll that decreases by 1 every 24 hours.

A Monograph on the Infernal Lesser Prince Morax the Profane

A while back I created a demon infested manor for my players to clear out and use as their new base of operations. Wanting a little more than murder-hobo smash and grab, I decided to try to tempt them. What else from a demonic intelligence that really wants to be free to cause chaos in the mortal realm? And how best to tempt a wizard desperate to hit 9th level? With magical (demonic) power of course!

Sadly they sent the demon back to hell, and destroyed the Monograph.

Well, they destroyed one copy of The Monograph. Others are out there. Maybe there's one in your game?

A Monograph on the Infernal Lesser Prince Morax the Profane
Composed by The Grand Archmage Idreforn, Court Wizard of the High King Aerokos

This tome radiates a faint necromantic/infernal magical aura when examined. The red leather of the covers is well worn, but the brass clasps shine as if freshly polished. The title on the spine glows dimly. Within, the pages are written both in an ancient common and magical script, depending on the section.

The first half of the volume covers who and what Prince Morax is, and his various evil deeds across both the world and as a general in the great wars in hell. It also describes the occasions the demon has been summoned and bent to the will of various demonologists, and how each time he’s been cast back into hell by the destruction of the crystal skull used to bind him. There is an extensive section detailing the various powers Morax is known to have used.

The second half of the volume concerns the ritual used to summon the demon, and the means to create the crystal skull that will bind him to the will of whoever holds the skull.

The study of this book requires a magic-user or cleric to study it for at least a week before they can attempt to fully understand the magics within. During this week, 3 Int/Wis checks must be made.

Check 1 - The Lore
Failed Check - Deciphering the text requires an extra week.
Passed Check - The reader gains a comprehensive knowledge of Morax
Passed +5 - The reader has an intimate knowledge of Morax, and gains a +2 to the next check.
Passed +10 - as above, but the reader also picks up on the fact that there’s too much detailed info in the book.

Check 2 - The Ritual
Failed check - There is a flaw in the reader’s understanding. There is a 50/50 chance of the ritual simply failing or opening a portal to hell.
Passed check - the reader can successfully follow the instructions to summon Morax.
Passed +5 - As above, but the reader can also use the summoning circle to contain Morax.
Passed +10 - As above, and the reader knows that the summoning is a permanent effect (and how to reverse the ritual to send Morax back to hell)

Check 3 - The Binding

Failed Check - The reader has a (likely fatal) misunderstanding of how the binding skull works. Attempts to create it or utilize one already in existence suffer a -2 to their check.
Passed check - The reader understands how to create and use the binding skull
Passed +5 - the reader gains a +2 to their rolls to create & use the skull
Passed +10 - The reader understands that destruction of the skull frees Moxon, doesn’t banish him.

Controlling Molar with the skull

Bending a demon prince (even a lesser one) to one's will is a difficult task. Morax has a willpower score of 28. Anyone using the skull must add their Intelligence & Wisdom scores, plus half their level (rounded down). If the score is less than 28, Morax takes control of them as if under the effect of a Charm Person spell (no save). A tie score allows Morax a save for every task assigned to him. Beating his score increases the duration between saves to 1 day for every point his power score is beaten by.

Strange Magic - Embroidered Flesh

Magical tattoos are a fairly common type of magical enhancement. Various systems handle them in a wide variety of ways, but one of the more common ones is for the tattoo to be a temporary thing. Once its power is used, the tattoo goes away, or at least the enchantment does.

A little while ago I was shown this website by Eliza Bennett called "A woman’s work is never done" where the artist says:

Using my own hand as a base material, I considered it a canvas upon which I stitched into the top layer of skin using thread to create the appearance of an incredibly work worn hand. By using the technique of embroidery, traditionally employed to represent femininity and applying it to the expression of it’s opposite, I hope to challenge the pre-conceived notion that ‘women’s work’ is light and easy. Aiming to represent the effects of hard work arising from employment in low paid ancillary jobs such as cleaning, caring, and catering, all traditionally considered to be ‘women’s work’.

Not only is this a fascinating project, it's also amazingly inspirational, or at least it was to me. I can easily imagine something like this being enchanted, and then being destroyed when the magic was used up.

I imagine the process both of embroidering the magical thread, and using it up would be... potentially painful?

Rings of Binding

"I so swear it." They intoned.

Everyone looked at the pair of rings waiting for a flash of light or a bell to ring...

"Did it work?" Nimble asked.

"I... don't know." Feris looked at the ring on his finger. Whispering a few magical words, he looked to the other ring on Sita Hatun Sultana's hand, and grinned. "Yes!"

She grinned back at him.

"So now what?" Rathgar asked.

"It means that now we can share our power" Sita replied.

Rings of Binding

These rings, when activated, bind together the life forces of the pair that wear them. This allows them to share their hit point totals and resist charm like effects with a +2 bonus to saving throws. Additionally, magic users in the bond can share their number of spells per day, using them with whatever spells the user has already prepared.

For example, two 3rd level magic users are wearing the rings. One has Levitate, and the other has Web memorized, the one who has Web can cast it twice.

Should the rings ever be removed voluntarily by the wearers they will not function for that same pair again without a remove curse being cast on both rings.

Ramblers

The guard standing on the watch tower jumped at the soft voice behind him. "I have heard that a great host approaches the monastery?" Spinning around he found himself in the presence of the abbot. How the old man had made it up here without making a sound...

"Yes abbot." And points out to the south. "You can see the dust. They're not moving quickly, but there seems to be a bunch of them."

"Well, keep an eye on them. I'll start making preparations for their arrival."

Hours later the first wave of walkers arrived. Dusty and tired, wearing a wide variety of clothing, from peasant smocks to noble outdoor attire they approached the gate. The abbot was waiting for them. An older skinny man, dressed in what once must have been a scribes outfit came forward, walking stick tapping with every other step. His ragged beard, stringy hair, and sun darkened skin told of many miles on the road. Stopping before the abbot he smacked his lips a few times to wet his dry mouth, and then coughed once to clear his throat. His voice, when it finally emerged was gentle, though a little rough. "Brother." He bowed slightly at the waist. "Might we beg of you for some water?"

"If you'll tell me your tale, we'll happily share what we have. Not just water, but food and wine."

"That would be most kind."

The abbot waved his monks out, and they came bearing trays of bread, pots of stew, and jugs of wine. "Come, join me inside if you would. We can sit in my garden."

Sitting among herbs, spices, and flowers the wanderer began "My tale is simple enough. I lost a friend, and I didn't know what to do. A day after the funeral, I went out on a walk to clear my head. I had no destination in mind. I never made it back home. Along the way, people have... followed me. I don't know why, really. They all seem to want something from me, and I don't know if it's something I can give. But I walk, and they walk with me."

"I'd heard something about a wanderer who'd collected lost souls in his wake."

"If that's me, then I'm just the first of them. I'm as lost as anyone."

"How long have you been on the road now?"

"Oh, almost 2 years now." the rambler smiles.

Staff of the Wanderer
This simple walking stick will always indicate true north to anyone grasping it. It also radiates an aura of calm around the bearer, and anyone wishing to attack must pass a saving throw vs spells to do so. This effect is negated for a day if the staff is used for violence. If used in combat it counts as a magical weapon but only causes 1d4 points of damage on a hit.

Ignighters of the Malicious Inferno

Thick acrid smoke billowed up the stairwell. "How are we going to get down through that?" Nimble asked.

"I've got a wind spell that might work."

"Wait, blow the smoke back in there?" Allianora asked.

Rathgar grinned. "I like this plan! Let's hurry before they finish the ritual and summon that demon."

"Elemental Lord" Feris corrected.

"What's the difference? In the end it's just another nasty thing that's gonna kill lots of people, probably starting with those stupid cultists down there."

Feris worked his magic, and a mighty gust of wind blew down from the sky, aimed right at the stairwell, pushed the smoke back down. "Quickly, follow it!"

They ran, taking multiple stairs at a time. About half way down, the smoke began to return, but with it came a rush of voices coughing and yelling from below. The companions were down the rest of the way before the cultist's were fully recovered.

Malicious Inferno
Use 16HD elemental stats.

The entity known as the Malicious Inferno has been summoned to the material world one too many times, and the experience has driving it mad. It now actively seeks to be summoned, distributing enchanted rubies (counts as a scroll) that, after a proper destructive and expensive ritual is performed, summons it. Any wizard capable of casting 5th level spells has a chance of realizing that the ritual doesn't actually provide any control over the elemental. Some of the ritual components are sent back to it's citadel on the elemental plane, and the ruby is teleported to a random spot on the prime material plane. There are 3 of these rubies known to exist.

Until the ritual is cast, the ruby also provides some minor magical powers centered around fire, including immunity to natural cold and fire, resistance to magical cold and fire, the ability to wreath the hand holding the ruby in flames, and the ability to throw those flames. In addition, the bearer will consistently have a nimbus of flame around their head.

Harvester of Hearts

"My dear sweet child..." The Queen put her arm around the dejected teen. "You can't win what's not offered."

"But I love her!" he whined.

"Oh how I know! Believe me, I've been in the same position." She squeezed him tight against her bosom. "Most of us have. Loving someone who loves someone else..."

"What did you do?" He was suddenly very unsure where his hands should go, and desperately trying not to look at the cleavage mere inches from his eyes. To his horror and thrill he was pulled in even tighter.

"I? I went out and got what I wanted. I didn't let anyone or anything get in my way." Pulling him from her chest, she cupped his face in her hands, and pulled him toward her face. When they were nearly nose to nose, his eyes as wide as saucers, she said "If you want her heart... you have to take her heart. Show her you're a man. Are you up to it? Do you want her?"

He nodded, and she kissed him full on the lips.

"Good. Then let's see that you've got the tools for the job."

The following day he was back, with his beloved on his arm. "It worked." He grinned like a fool, and held up the box. The sanguine glow leaking from the edge was faint but steady.

The Queen stepped from her throne. "Congratulations, and well done." She took the box gently from the boy, and cracked the lid. "Excellent indeed..." She pulled the knife from her hip sheath and handed it to the girl. "Now cut his heart out."

As she did, the Queen added the box to the growing collection on the shelves behind the throne.

Heart Box
These magic boxes allow the owner to draw the heart from a single individual. That person can make a save vs spells. Failure means their heart has been magically removed. They will say or do anything that the holder of the box orders, an effect more powerful than any standard charm spell.

Bear Cult

The low glow of the fire's embers cast a soft red light in the small cave. The smell of earth, smoke, sweat, and beer filled the air. The rumble of snores from the fur covered bed in the back of the cave masked any noise that Nimble made as he crept toward the massive iron bound chest. Behind the lock and under the lid was the Heart of the Wild, a giant ruby that Nimble wanted for... Well, mostly because it was a giant ruby!

Fur pelts covered the floor away from the cave entrance, and the stone still held the heat of the ceremony and the fire and the cultists that had crowded the cave for the many hours that Nimble had waited in the cold forest for just this opportunity.

Nimble dropped to one knee in front of the chest, and with a quick final glance around, began to pick the lock. As he did, the fur rug beneath him shifted. Looking over his shoulder he saw the bearskin stand up, it's dead eyes looking at him, the jaw slowly working out the stiffness in it's joint.

Bear Skin Rug

This pelt has been enchanted to guard whatever room it's is placed in. When inactive, only a faint preservative magic can be detected on it, however once a threat has been identified (the criteria for this are determined every time the rug is brought into a new room) the magics activate and animate the rug. Once animated the rug will attack whoever has been deemed the threat. The rug will attack as per the type of bear it's made from. It will have half the normal number of hit points, but be immune to bludgeoning weapons, and take only half damage from piercing weapons. Magical weapons will still inflict their full enchantment bonus, regardless of weapon type.

Nephropid-mail Bio-Armor

Feris tossed another stick into the gentle surf as he sat on the rock jetty.

"She's still at it?" Rathgar asked, walking up behind him. Out in the water Princess swam quickly toward the stick.

"Over an hour now. If I couldn't throw the stick all over, I'd never be able to keep this up. As it is my shoulder is getting sore.

"They don't spend a lot of time on that sort if thing in wizard school hua?"

"Wand practice was worse." Princess splashed out of the sea, water slowing off of her. The stick in her mouth failing to hide the grin on her face. She shook the water out of the little bit of fur that poked out from under the rust brown shell covering most of her body. The eye-stalks swiveled around, mostly seeming to focus on the gulls squawking above.

"She's going to be so hungry tonight."

"Hope Nimble got a deer or a goat or something."

Princess trotted up to Feris, and he took the stick. One of the claws snapped out, grabbing the stick before he could pull it away. "Every time..." The stick snapped in half and the half Feris wasn't holding fell to the rocks. He threw the remaining half out into the water, and Princess jumped in after it.

Lucy in her lobster costume. She loves this thing so much!

Nephropid-mail Bio-Armor
Alternately described as a parasite, symbiote, and (of course) creation of a mad wizard, these creatures attach themselves to a host, providing various benefits until it outgrows the host. If a suitable new host is available, the transition is painful, but usually not fatal to the old host. Otherwise, the creature will kill and consume the host before going off to find another.

Potential Powers:
AC as Chain or Banded mail
Increased Stamina (bonus to Con checks, saves vs poison)
Swim speed equal to normal movement
2 claw attacks (damage varies by size)

Potential Drawbacks:
Major Charisma penalty
Bulky
Difficult to get used to (combat penalty until proficient)
Will eventually kill you, or maybe just maim you.

Barbarian Princess and the Eye of the North

The rain had fallen steadily for the last week. Never a torrential downpour, but constant. The fields and hills beyond the fort's walls were saturated with the moisture, making travel into the wilderness all but impossible. The few patrols sent out had quickly bogged down and returned home exhausted, covered in mud, and soaked to the bone. Not that things were much better within the wooden walls. Even the walkways along the walls were slick, and dangerous. The constant grey clouds made telling the hour impossible.

Yet there they were. On the appointed day, at the appointed time... and somehow they'd arrived at the gate without being completely covered in mud. Gaius stood at the top of the gatehouse, looking down at the small party. "Open the gate" he ordered the guards as he took the ladder down to meet them.

Sinking into the sucking mud at the bottom of the ladder he sighed, and continued around to the now open gate. The barbarians remained in place, looking into the fort with ill-disguised distaste. As Gaius stepped into the gateway, their eyes all swept quickly over him. Most returned to watching the rest of the fort, but the young woman in the center of the group locked her eyes with his.

While lacking the hulking forms of the more northern barbarians, the local tribes were no less ferocious in battle, making up for what they lacked in size with guile. This princess was no exception. Her pale eyes bore into his. Unnervingly the circlet she wore held a stone the same pale blue as her eyes, and all three orbs seemed to stare unblinkingly at him.

Sniffing the runny nose the gods-forsaken weather gifted him with he raised his hand in greeting. "Welcome to Fort Artok. I am Gaius, son of Geldar and Philena, commander of this troop." He hoped they spoke a civilized tongue.

"On behalf of the Tribe of the Grey Spirit and the Tribe of the Morning's Dawn I have come to treat with you, and bring warning that further encroachments into our territory will be met with deadly force." Her voice was strong, clear, and spoke his language with barely an accent.

The barbarians around her gripped their spears a little tighter, their backs straightening. Behind and above him, Gaius knew his troops were doing the same. "You come to treat, then please enter in peace" he said 'and get out of the rain' he thought to himself.

She held his gaze, and only the ever present rain and dripping of his own nose punctuated the long silent moment.'There's a fire and hot spiced wine inside... please...'

Finally she nodded her ascent and the whole group stepped forward toward the gate.

AC 5; HD 4+4**; #AT 1 spear or 1 spell; Dmg 1d6+1 or by spell; MV 120' (40'); Save Elf 4; ML 10; TT Vx3; AL Neutral, XP 275
The barbarian princess casts spells from the Druid Spell list with 3 first level slots and 2 second level slots. She wears the Eye of the North.

Eye of the North
This pale blue zircon stone, set into a simple circlet, grants the wearer the ability to find paths in dark places, both physical and metaphorical. The most notable power is to reduce the chance of becoming lost in the wilderness by half. In addition, it can provide an insight bonus when dealing with strangers. This can manifest in a +1 bonus to reaction rolls.

Eyewalker

Rathgar noticed it out of the corner of his eye, a small white orb, clinging to the back of the curtain.  Had the window not been open, and the wind blowing, he never would have seen it.  Rathgar locked eyes with Nimble across the table, and then briefly looked again at the window just as the wind blew.  Nimble spotted it, and put down the mystic card.

“Looks like I win this gambit!” Nimble smiles, pulling the gold toward him.  As his hands moved across the table, he palmed the knife next to the block of cheese.  Nimble twisted slightly as if to put the gold in his pouch, and flicked the knife toward the orb.  It crunched, and small shards of white glass tinkled to the floor.  For a brief moment a whiff of brimstone floated across the table, and then was gone.

“So I guess we’ll replay that hand then?” Rathgar asked.

“Why would we do that?” Nimble responded.

An eyewalker is a magical construct of cartoonish appearance, a white orb upon 8 legs that only barely resemble spider’s legs.  They move with a jerky fluidity, appear to have no joints, and can climb any normal surface and any web.  The eyewalker has the following relevant stats:
Armor Class: 8
Hit Dice: 1hp (S)
Move: 120 (40)

When attuned to a magic-user these eyewalkers will transmit all it sees and hears – constantly.  This causes the magic-user to be distracted, suffering a -2 penalty to all initiative rolls and saving throws vs charm effects.  To attune or de-attune from the eyewalker, the magic-user must be holding it in his hand.  Should the orb be destroyed while the wizard is attuned to it he will continue to suffer the penalties for an additional 24 hours.

They are powered by an entrapped imp, whose imprisonment can only be ended by the shattering of the orb.  An imp so released will do all it can to harass it’s former master before returning to the nether-regions it was spawned from.

5e Magic Item: Jack-O'-Lantern

“Take this” Marketh offered “and may it light your way.” In his hand he held a hollowed out turnip with a face carved into it, and the stump of a candle flickering inside it.

Allianora humbly took the turnip and thanked the wild haired man. After presenting him with a few silver coins, and the group continued on, deeper into the woods.

A short bit later, once the gift giver was out of sight Nimble spoke up “Really, a turnip? Not even a pumpkin?” he asked, exasperated.

“You don’t turn down the offer when someone gives you the gift of light.”

“For a handful of silver?!?” Nimble pointed out.

“What of it?” She asked him. “For a few silver Marketh can treat his family to a small feast this harvest, while we share in the beauty of this lantern.”

3 days later the candle finally burned itself out after watching over the party for several nights of peaceful slumber in the deep dark woods. Nimble continued to grumble about the lost silver anyway.

Rules Cyclopedia:
A jack o’ lantern is a familiar item of hedge magic.  When properly enchanted, this item will reduce the likelihood of random wilderness encounters.  During the day roll a d12 instead of a d6, and at night roll a d20 instead of a d12.  The jack o’ lantern will continue to burn for 1d6 days.

5e:
Wondrous item, common
When lit, the jack o' lantern produces the effect of the spell Nondetection. In addition, for the 8 hour duration, random encounters will only occur on a roll of 20 on a 1d20, rather than the usual 18-20.

Time Taker

"I know this mark..." Rathgar said with astonishment.

Feris turned away from the pile of scrolls "Mark?"

"It's a makers mark on the blade. Jie Chue, the master forger. This is an amazing find. Each of his blades was unique, and all are magical."

Allianora stood away from the candles she'd lit to purify the old tomb. "Looks a little dingy for a magic sword."

"It is over a millennia old... " Rathgar ran his finger over the edge "and battle ready still, in spite of a bit of tarnishing"

"Any idea what it actually does?" Nimble asked as he scooped the jewelry from the long dead bodies.

Rathgar shrugged, then swung the blade at one of the recently re-dead ghouls. The blade passed through the dead flesh easily. In it's wake, the flesh around the cut turned to dust and fell away from the body.

Time Taker
This ancient +3 longsword is a potent weapon that steals time from it's victim. For every point of damage, the victim ages a year. A successful Saving Throw vs. Paralysis will negate the aging effect.

Wayedge 5e magic sword

Jie Chue, master forger of the ancient empire, long ago crafted a small blade for a patron who's name has passed into the sands of history. Tales of the blade, however, have turned up from time to time. An elven assassin once used Wayedge to slay a noble baron, which spurred the baron's daughter to take up his sword while his son took up the crown. It is also told that Wayedge brought low the Goblin King of Thunder Rift in the hands of a courageous halfling.

It is not known where Wayedge currently rests, but it never stays out of bardic tales for long.

Wayedge
Weapon (short sword), very rare (requires attunement)

Wayedge is a single edged shortsword with a gently curved blade. It's hilt is a flowing brass knot-work design that begins at the cross-guard and finished at the pommel. It is preternaturally sharp and polished without ever needing to be tended. Wayedge is a +1 shortsword with two unusual enchantments. The first allows it to be thrown as a dagger, instantly returning to the thrower's hand at the end of the round it was thrown. The second manifests itself rarely; only when it has been thrown as a dagger and the player rolls a natural 20 on their attack. When this happens the character who threw Wayedge will be instantly teleported next to the target and able to make a bonus attack on anyone within range with advantage.

This is an update of the first magic item I ever put up on the blog, and my second ever post. Now the 5e version can join the Rules Cyclopedia & 4e versions I came up with over 5 and a half years ago...

New Magic Item: Guild Of Maintainers Lamp

"This is a heavy duty door for a sewer..." Nimble scratched his chin. "But I don't actually think it's locked."

"And no sign of traps?" Allianora asked.

"Nothing. Just this old writing." He pointed to the ancient script circling the door's wheel. "Feris, do you know what it says?"

Feris closed his eyes and muttered something under his breath. When he opened his eyes, they were solid gold in color. "It's an invocation to order, and a place name... I think."

"You think?" Rathgar asked.

"Have you ever heard of a place called URU?"

"I have." Allianora answered. "It was a great and ancient city of mechanical wonders. According to the old stories even the angels on their cathedrals were animated.

"If the condition of this door is any indication, we can hope some of those wonders are well preserved within." Nimble smiled and reached for the wheel. With a grunt it gave way, and the latches withdrew into the door. Rathgar reached out and helped pull the heavy door open. Within, the small chamber was lit by a single lantern. THe walls were covered in strange colorful drawings tacked up on wooden boards. The only furniture was the table the lamp rested on, it's light as steady as any magelight.

"Hua..." Nimble sighed. "I was hoping for something a little more... more."

URU Guild Of Maintainers Lamp by by *Pirkleations

This magical lamp casts light as a normal lamp, and anything within it's light magically resists the effects of entropy. It is not a full immunity, but food left in it's light will easily last for a century or more without spoiling. In addition the light acts as a protection from Chaos spell. A side effect of the spell, is that games of chance can not be played in it's light. For example, shuffled decks of cards will sort themselves in order from lowest suit and number to highest.

Magic Item: The Crown of Candles

Allianora stood over the dusty skeleton in the rotted robe.  Rathgar, Nimble, and Feris stood off to the side and looked around at the various murals that adorned the wall.  "She made this a haven against the darkness" she siad softly.

"Who did?" Feris asked.

"The priestess, for her followers.  They trusted her."  Allianora knelt down next to the body, gently lifting her skull and looking into it's empty eyes.  "She did the best she could for them, but they were overwhelmed.  The last of them barricaded themselves in here... they were safe, but trapped."

"What kept the attackers out?" Rathgar asked.

Allianora reached down to a dark circlet with several odd protrusions. "This."

The Crown of Candles is a holy relic from ages past.  A silver circlet darkened with age, with two bands that cross over the top.  There are 4 protrusions spaced equally around the circlet, each designed to hold a tall tapered candle.  At the center of the cross is a fifth spot for a candle.  When worn by a female cleric or other holy woman of good/lawful alignment with 5 lit candles, it will provide light as per the spell until the Crown is removed.  In addition, all those of the same alignment as the wearer of the Crown will be under the effect of the Bless spell, and the area illuminated by the light will be under the effect of a Protection from Evil/Chaos.

Creatures of evil/chaos will be magically inclined to ignore the crown, should it be encountered unlit.  A Save vs Spells at a penalty of 4 must be passed for them to treat the crown as anything other than a silver trinket..

New Magic Item: Blade of Woe

"Be careful of that one." the arms master warned the princeling.

"Why?" his still too high voice asked as he ran his fingertips along the leather wrapped grip.

"It's cursed"

"Cursed!?!" the boy snatched his fingers away.

"Well..." he hedged "Not cursed, exactly. But it's vicious! It's been known to draw the strength of it's wielder to use against their opponent, whether the man holding the blade wills it or not."

"But shouldn't a man use his strength to defeat an opponent?"

"Use? Yes. Drain away, leaving him weakened as if he'd been sliced by his own blade? No... not that."

Blade of Woe
This magical blade begins combat with a +1 bonus to attack and damage. For every round it faces the same opponent it gains an additional +1, however that additional power is drawn from the bearer's own hit points, drawing 1 the second round, 2 the third, and so on. These lost hit points can only be healed magically. When a new opponent is attacked, the enchantment reverts to +1 and the process begins again.

Jewelry of the Bloodmilk Necromancer

The Bloodmilk Necromancer is not a name, or a title, but a cabal of macabre craftsmen, though few know the truth of this. Most believe there is a single individual who goes by that name. This belief has been fostered by the cabal by a clever disguise that hides the true appearance of anyone wearing it anytime the Bloodmilk Necromancer must make an appearance. A great voluminous mantle enchanted with a variety of illusionary magics makes the face of the wearer completely hidden in shadow. Beneath the shadow is an illusion of a gaunt bearded man, beneath that a deaths head. A final illusion of a mass of bloody worms constantly devouring the flesh of the face they cover.

The works of the Bloodmilk Necromancer are enchanted items of jewelry. Each piece contains a minor magical effect, while at the same time being layered with a a curse, and another hidden enchantment - a link that allows the cabal to see and hear through their items whenever they're worn.

New Magic Item: Magic Box

The red dragon gasped as he lay dying. Arrows pierced his scales, cuts oozed thick dark blood, and the blackened patch on his neck dripped melting ice. He locked eyes with Feris, and tried to speak, the words getting stuck in his ruined throat.

“This is it.” Nimble called out from the far end of the cave. He carried the box carefully, almost reverently.

“Is it trapped?” Asked Allianora.

“No, not that I can tell.” Feris answered.

Rathgar looked at the box, and then around to the coins, gems, and other treasures now scattered around the cave. “All this, and what you want is that box?”

“Most assuredly.” Nimble nodded.

“You know it’s dangerous…” Feris warned.

“Dangerous how?” Allianora looked up from the box, alarmed.

“The magic that box contains can rewrite the very fabric of reality.”

“Don’t your spells do that?”

“Of course, but only in a very limited way. That box can change… everything.”

“Why didn’t he use it?” Rathgar pointed over at the dragon.

“He might have, but not effectively. He didn’t have the imagination for it.”

“Nimble… are you sure this is a good idea?”

“Yes.” He paused. “No… but we have to.”

“Why risk it? We don’t know what we’re doing…”

Nimble grinned and looked up from the box “When has that ever stopped us?”

“If you’re going to do it, best get to it.”

Magic Box

This item, rare and powerful, allows a character to steal a mechanic from a different edition and use it in place of the standard rule for that edition. This rule change will permanently change the game world changing the rule for everyone it applies to. The Dungeon Master can make one rule change for every change the player makes.

I don't actually get my magic box for a couple of weeks yet, but I'll have the basic PDF by the end of the day!

New Magic Item: Ring of Dark Desire

“What is it?”

Feris held the black band in his hand. “I’m not sure. It has some very minor binding magic, but beyond that I can’t tell.”

“I’ll take it” Nimble declared, palming the ring. He slipped it onto his finger, sparkle of diamond chips flashing in the light against the dark metal. “It isn’t cursed is it?”

Feris smiled. “Lucky for you, no.”

The streets sweltered with the stench of the unwashed, and no movement disturbed the stillness of the midday sun. The companions rested like nearly everyone else in the town in the stone basements that offered a shadowed hint of coolness.

“Feris, can’t you do something about this?” Nimble whined.

“I could… but I won’t.”

“Gods, why not? This is unbearable.”

Rathgar shifted slightly “Nimble? Stop adding to the hot air.”

“But-”

“It’s too hot.” Rathgar grumbled as he shifted to his feet. “I’m going to get another pitcher of water.”

“I’d give anything for a cool rain right now…”

The companions shivered as the basement filled instantly with a cool drizzle. “Anything?” a voice hissed in Nimble’s head.

Ring of Dark Desire

This ring is crafted of a near black unknown metal set all around with small diamond chips that radiates a faint magical trace. When worn, and a desire expressed, there is a 50% chance that something will reply with an offer to fulfil the wearer’s desire. The something (usually a demon/devil) usually does not have the wearer’s best interests at heart. This is not as powerful as a ring of wishes, and is cataloged as a ‘Ring of Petty Desires’ in Emirikol’s Grimoire of Infernal Secrets.
