The Ancients

“We are the Ancients!” The assembled villagers intoned.

Hank the yeoman’s embroidered red robe dragged on the ground, while his upraised arms kept bumping the golden cuffs on his wrists into the metallic collar that stretched out over his shoulders. “We are the keepers of all that is!”

“We are the Ancients!” The farmers around him intoned together.

“We are the keepers of all that was!” Hank projected over the crowd.

“We are the Ancients!”

“We are the keepers of all that shall be!”

“How long do we have to watch this” Nimble asked Feris. They crouched in the shadow of the barn, out of sight and hidden from the circle of torch and lantern light that the villagers clustered around.

“At least until they reveal the book.” Feris answered.

They sat watching for another minute while the crowd continued their service. “Where do you think they’re keeping it?”

“If I knew that, I’d tell you so you could go get it. Now shush, I’m trying to listen to what they’re saying.”

“Anything interesting?”

Feris sighed. "Not really. Where's the book?"

Nimble squinted, his brow creasing in concentration. "I think it's out." He pointed at Hank.

"I don't see it. Where?"

"The blueish glow coming from the cuff on his left arm. I think that's what he's reading off of."

Cuff of the Ancients

This magical device is both a boon and a curse to any that wears it. It acts as both a ring of spell storing and a spellbook able to contain upto 100 pages of spells (and is often found with unique spells not found elsewhere). In addition, anyone wearing it can access and use the spells contained within as magical scrolls. This will erase the spells as they are used. The cuff is also is imbued with the personality of the original owner, a megalomaniacal dictator of a great ancient civilization that time has forgotten, and the personality will permanently overwrite the wearers personality over the course of anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the strength of the wearer (Charisma + Wisdom = number of days).
